Video games continue to be an artistic and engaging vehicle for storytelling, immersing players in deep original worlds that are full of mystery. We here at Capitol Underground have continued our ArtxGaming series, taking our favorite games and creating a story-driven narrative by mixing games with original musical compositions by up and coming musicians. The Assassins Creed series is one of our favorites and we were excited when we saw the reveal trailer for Assassins Creed: Valhalla. The world of Norse mythology and conflicts between England and Vikings are deep and expansive and we have full confidence that the Ubisoft development team will bring together a great and compelling story.
For those who are not familiar with the Assassins Creed series, players are taken through various historical times in history where they re-play the memories of assassins that shape historical moments from the shadows, in order to stop the Templars who are seeking to enslave the world through the power of the Apple of Eden. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the newest installment in the franchise, your thrust into the 9th century, at the height of the Viking age. Players are invited to take part as a Viking raider and also a leader of a clan from Norway. You are expelled from your homeland due to political reasons and must find a new place to establish a home for your people. This brings you to the shores of England during the historical period of the "Great Heathen Army Running Rampant". You will clash with the English empire to establish a new land for you and your people.
Our creative director SetwhenTheEditor, along with our musical composer AN_TY, have created a musically driven story showing the expansive world, the combat mechanics, and the savagery of Viking battle in Assassins Creed's created world. Set wanted the tempo and flow of the music to correlate with the changing dynamic of the action. The soft and eerie beginning of AN_TY "Vendetta" contrasts well with the depiction of both the soft playful side of Vikings as well as their pillaging and brutal nature. The song's slow suspenseful buildup grew to its climactic crescendo when the beat drops and viewers are thrust into a bloody battle between the Vikings and brits. The chaotic nature of the song plays along with the chaotic nature of Vikings and their constant skirmishes to plae viewers right into the middle of the action. But don't take our word for it, watch for yourself!
