Fortnite and PUBG are by far the big two when you talk about the new battle royale style of game-play emerging in the Third/First Person shooter genre. By new I definitely mean the 1 vs 99 style of combat because we all know that Golden Eye was the grandfather of them all with the 4 player, split screen, Saturday morning, sleep-over action.
While there are those that prefer the realistic, military style game-play of PUBG, there is another clan of followers that prefer the more cartoony and lighthearted aesthetics of Fortnite.
Epic Games plans to exploit this new and uncharted gameplay style to the fullest after revealing that they will offer $100M in prize money over the 2018-2019 season.
This is huge as no other online multiplayer game has ever put this much money up for grabs. There’s no doubt in my mind that this will entice even the PUBG community to finally give Fortnite a try if they haven’t already done so.
Not only will this line the pockets of Fortnite enthusiasts but it will also bolster the competitiveness among their ranks. It’s a genius marketing scheme as it not only pulls people away from PUBG but gives players the opportunity to earn money by doing so.
It will be interesting to see how the 2018-2019 season plays out for Epic Games. Well played…
